Testronic, a leading company in the QA gaming and entertainment industry, invited Form Agency to pitch for their rebrand project.

The brief was to come up with a new brand identity that better reflected the company and their services. It needed to be professional, yet still have an element of fun. It should also align with the gaming and entertainments industry they represented.

We had a good understanding of the gaming industry having designed for gaming publishers. Alongside growing up as gamers ourselves.

Having the experience and understanding the sector gives you an advantage to getting a head start on a project like this.

The key element we had to nail down was coming up with strong a strong visual identity. This was imperative. We wanted to create a brand with a bold colour palette, strong imagery and messaging that resonates with their customer base. It needed to have campaigns that would engage their customers and be memorable. We had a clear direction on where we needed to position Testronic.

Game on – start the design process

Logo design

When starting the design process of a new brand, it’s typical we start with the logo first.

The Testronic company contains 4 service lines. These are gaming, TV, entertainment and software. Testronic's challenge was how to define the service lines for their Q&A business. The way we approached the logo was to create an icon which represented each of the service lines. We created the icon using a series of ticks in a fan-like design, and coloured each of them to represent each segment of their business.

For the typography of the logo, we wanted a strong font. It needed to be bold and clean and complement the new icon.

With the logo finished, we went on to develop the visual identity for use on websites and all Testronic marketing collateral. This had to be an extension of the logo with each of the company divisions branded in their respective new colours. This allowed for each division to be easily identified when promoted. Backed up with good imagery and bold typography, the brand started to come together.

We won the branding pitch

We pitched our ideas to the Testronic stakeholders, and they received them well.

It were quite unusual circumstances compared to a usual pitch. They told us on the day that we had won the pitch and awarded the contract, which was great to hear.

The next phase was putting a plan together on how we launch the brand. Some companies like to do a soft launch where certain brand elements get rolled out whilst others follow on thereafter.

Testronic wanted to hit the ground running and do a full launch. This required a lot of planning and scheduling working with the internal Testronic team. We had to launch a website, event stands, advertising campaigns, brochures, and various other touch point material.

Bugs Beware

Coming up with and creating the advertising campaigns for Testronic was a fun part of the process.

Typically, the work we do at Form is with corporate companies where campaigns need a serious tone. For Testronic it was very much the opposite. This allowed us to create some catchy and memorable campaigns.

Our first campaign was a highly visual campaign called Bugs Beware. This a play on the service that Testronic offered in quality testing games to remove any bugs or glitches. It boast simple visuals with a gaming controller and a dead bug lying on its back. The campaign ran in various industry magazines and online websites.

We went on to create other campaigns to promote Testronic's gaming and their other service lines.

Testronic has continued to grow their customer base working with leading industry game developers.

The company has also opened new offices in Europe and USA to enable support for their clients' needs. They are now recognised as the leader in the QA gaming sector.

Form Agency are currently actively working with them in a new area for the virtual reality market, a new addition to the Testronic services.

We gave Form Agency a competitive brief to completely rebrand Testronic. As soon as I saw the pitch, I knew they were the right guys for us. They then went on to design and create a totally new look and feel right across all our marketing materials and website that has absolutely put us on the map in the video games world.
