There is something quite satisfying to be part of a new start-up company such as Cloud Margin.
Form created a new corporate brand identity for a new disrupter in the fintech space.
Having previously worked in the Collateral Management space, we knew that 's perceived as a very serious industry. Large corporations and institutions dealing in trillions of dollars daily. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean your brand has to be... let’s just say it, boring.
With the launch of an exciting new fintech company, we wanted to ensure Cloud Margin got off to the best start it could. We also wanted to the break the mould of a typical collateral management brand.

A new fintech brand is born
Brand creation
When creating a new brand such as Cloud Margin, we go through the systematic process of gaining as much information as we can.
This allows us to steer the brand in the right direction. It can include understanding the client and their customers, the required tone of the brand, competitors and short- and long-term goals for the company.
Once we have all the information, we set about starting the design process in building the brand. The logo is typically the first past of the brand that we create. For Cloud Margin we designed a series of logos with the variations using a Sans-Serif font. It enabled the logo to look modern and clean in its appearance.
When designing the icon, the client wanted to include a cloud design into the logo. Upon researching other logos, we found they tended to look overly busy, or not connected to the typography of the logo. We came up with a series of designs for the icon which used clean lines and to soften the icon cloud shape we applied graduations through the icon.
With the logo signed off, we proceeded to establish the colour palette for use in the brand. To define the modern look and feel we opted to go for a clean white bias but using blue hues as accent colours. Historically, finance brands and blues are in use over and over, so we wanted to be careful not to become another one of those companies.
Next, we wanted to work on the messaging and tone for the brand.
The company founders were youthful, yet very experienced and respected in their field. They wanted to convey a fresh fun tone for what is a serious industry. We worked on a series of messaging and defined the tone with the clients. Finally, we came up with a series of advertising campaigns that would define the direction of the tone of voice.
With the completed brand, we set about planning the website and other assets we needed for the launch of the company.

Digital marketing for the financial sector
When launching a new start-up company, it can be overwhelming for the owners.
Especially if they have never been involved in their own business. At Form we are always on-hand to guide our clients thought the marketing side of the business.
When launching a new brand, the process varies from client to client. Some will do a soft launch, more so we have seen in the fintech sector. This can be due to the software or platform being beta tested by a select handful of clients, rather than wholesale brand launch.
This was the route Cloud Margin decided to take. It gave us time to work on the website as well as working with the client in creating a good-looking and intuitive User Interface for their platform.
With leading companies like Bloomberg and Reuters raising the bar of UX and UI design, clients had become used to class leading platform design. Even as a niche start-up, the platform had to be as good as its peers.
From a digital standing we help design the User Interface, and also built out a website. Clean in its appearance and applying the brand style throughout. Messaging needed clear labelling and allowed the website visitors to navigate around the site and find the information required easily.
Thereafter, we worked on the secondary assets. These included brochures, factsheets, presentation decks, exhibition stands, social media banners and posts and stationery.
Last but not least...
We came up with a series of advertising campaigns to promote the company’s services. As mentioned previously, the collateral management space is a very serious, sometimes stuffy industry. The campaigns we came up with set the tone for the brand using fun, quirky, but clear messaging to promote Cloud Margin. We focused on the challenges in the industry and how Cloud Margin solutions will help their business grow, identify and be more transparent.
We finalised the brand, the website went live and the platform launched. Project completed.
We enjoyed working with Andy from Cloud Margin and his Co-Founders and the company has gone on to grow into a larger enterprise over the years.
